On January 7, 2016, Billy Navarre went to rest with his Lord and Savior.
Billy Navarre was born September 12, 1954 and was the son of Glady & Agnes Navarre, and later, step-father Sidney J. Broussard. He graduated from Welsh High School and attended McNeese State University before going into the finance business in 1973 and purchasing his own Chevrolet dealership in Sulphur, Louisiana in 1982. Over the next 30 years, he acquired Billy Navarre Chevrolet of Lake Charles, Billy Navarre Honda, Billy Navarre Hyundai and Equus and Billy Navarre Cadillac.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carrie Navarre, his five sons and one daughter, Ryan (wife Bridgette), Jareth (wife Deborah), Barrett (wife Amanda), Grant Navarre, Bryce Navarre and Kaitlyn Navarre and also his previous wife, Bernadette Navarre. Billy is also survived by his sister, Juanette (husband Tommy) Coble, brother, Gerry (wife Kathy) Navarre and brother, Ted (wife Colette) Navarre and sister-in-law, Ramona Navarre. He had eleven grandchildren; Gage, Alyssa, Jaide, Kohl, Blaide, West, Juliana, Maliyah, James, AJ, Mila, ten nieces and nephews and eighteen great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Terry Navarre, and two grandsons that he has joined in heaven, Carroll Navarre and Elijah Navarre.
Mr. Navarre also leaves behind his business family of over 300 employees, a family that he has loved dearly for over 30 years. He thrived on training and growing people to be the best they can be, and in his 34 years as a dealer, he personally trained and grew over 40 employees in this area to become self-employed business owners and entrepreneurs. He enjoyed passing on his Secret to Life- “If you are willing to do your best, learn all you can, out-work everyone around you, great things can happen!”
Aside from his personal and business family, he had a joy for hunting and fishing. His #1 passion was coaching children, including his own. For over 30 years, he coached baseball, basketball, football, soccer and softball. Of all his achievements in life, his greatest was coaching and teaching children in sports or helping young business people grow to reach their maximum potential. He truly enjoyed watching them become the best they can be.
Over Billy Navarre’s 34 years in business, he had many other achievements and awards. In 1990 he was named Citizen of the Year by West Cal Cam Hospital and again in 2008 by Chamber SWLA, and other awards such as Marine Corps League Citizen of the Year, Southwest Daily News Man of the Year, Jaycees Outstanding Young Businessman of the Year for the State of Louisiana, Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Delta Sigma Theta Outstanding Citizen of the Year, Distinguished Service Award for Rotary, SWLA Community Activist Award, Hearts of Gold- KPLC TV, Blue Cross/Blue Shield Angel Award for work with the Youth, Literacy Hero Award in 1995, 1996 and 1997, Friend of Education Award for Calcasieu Parish and State, Louisiana Association of Educators Award, National Association Educators President’s Award, BBB Torch Award for Highest Ethics in a business place, Best Community Activist by Times of SWLA, Best Auto Dealership by Times of SWLA and Lagniappe, Best Mover and Shaker by Times of SWLA, Best Auto Dealership by Lagniappe Magazine, plus many other Manufacturer Awards for his dealerships.
Billy Navarre was involved in many organizations including the following: NADA, 20 Group, LADA, GCCA, Ducks Unlimited, Rotary-Past President and Board of Directors, West Cal Chamber of Commerce-Past Board Member, Chamber SWLA-Board Member, Board of Directors for Boys and Girls Village, CEO-Past President and Board Member, Golden Saddle Club-Past President and Board Member, Sowela Community College-Chairman for 6 years, United Way-Past Board of Directors, MSU Quarterback Club, Knights of Columbus, MDA- Past Board Member
Billy Navarre is known for his commitment to the community; sponsoring school events, benefits, charities, veterans, hospitals, scoreboards, uniforms, school organizations, and many other fundraising efforts.
Pallbearers are, JW Peloquin, Justin Peloquin, Tommy Coble, Sidney Coble, Damon Navarre, Clay Navarre, David Navarre and Bill Navarre.
Billy Navarre was a devout Catholic and attended Immaculate Conception Cathedral. He was a man of God and often spoke of his “only” partner in business, his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30am, Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until 10:00pm, Monday, January 11, 2016 with a Wake Service at 6:30pm and resume Tuesday from 7:00am until 9:00am at the church. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery. Father Whitney Miller will be Celebrant, Msgr. Jace Eskind will be Con-Celebrant, Bishop Glen John Provost attending, and Monday, Msgr.
