Betty was born in Churchpoint, LA, to parents George and Eva Bellard on March 13, 1932.
There were many qualities about Betty that her family expressed; such as her ability to be generous with her time and helping people who needed it. She also was very devoted to her family and stressed the importance of get-togethers and Sunday dinners. Family time was very valued. She was the matriarch of the family, and what she said was law. The grandchildren even called her the "Dragon Lady". While she was reportedly stern, she was also very fair. She instilled the values of what is right and what is wrong to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Betty was fluent in Cajun French, and while she didn't listen to music too much, she would always enjoy old Cajun music. She also had self-taught herself American Sign Language to better communicate with those in the family who were deaf. Betty also took on helping with the care of the grandchildren when needed.
She had a vast, unending love of frogs that extended to an entire collection of various items representing them. Betty may not have been too fond of any other animal, but those little green amphibians were her favorite. She also had a love and talent for crochet and would crochet baby blankets. Betty was also very devout in her faith and her love of God.
Betty is welcomed into Heaven by her husband, Edmond Garcille; her parents; daughter, Jacqueline Hamilton; and siblings, Mickey Bellard, Clarence Bellard, Bessie Fletcher, and Bobby Bellard.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Daryl and Reginald Garcille; sister, Linda Soileau; four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Betty was a helluva mom and will be greatly missed.
