Nancy Catlett Timmons, age 90, passed away on December 8th, 2022, surrounded by her family. Born in Princeton, IN, to Elizabeth Young Catlett and Marvin “Bob” Lee Catlett, they moved to LaGrange, KY, when she was six weeks old. Even though she lived in Frankfort, Louisville, and Lexington during her adult life, LaGrange was always considered home.
Nancy graduated from LaGrange High School and moved to Frankfort with best friend Jean Dowell Taylor to work as a receptionist for the first commissioner of the Kentucky State Police, Guthrie Crowe. She met her husband, Hayden, while working there, and eventually they found their way back to LaGrange. Once her children were grown, Nancy worked as the front desk receptionist at the Oldham County Board of Education, where she was always praised for being the most welcoming and pleasant first face and voice of the office. She retired from there years later.
Nancy is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Hayden. She is survived by her four children Valerie Timmons (Graham Ellis), Vanessa Jones (Larry), Laurie Buchanan, and Brian Timmons (Miguel Vega-Sanchez); her five grandchildren Kathleen (Beau), Nicholas (Catherine), Lucas, Lucy and Stephanie; and three great grandchildren Sawyer, Webb and Easton.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Nancy’s memory to Hosparus of Louisville or the St. Baldrick’s Foundation for childhood cancer research.
A celebration of Nancy and Hayden’s lives will be held at a later date.
