Elizabeth “Libby” Johnson was born in LaGrange, Kentucky on September 15,1949, at the old Mallory Taylor Hospital. Her parents JC and Alice Mattingly precede her in death, along with her husband Elmer Joseph “Al” Johnson. Libby was a fiercely smart, compassionate and kind person; she was fervent about religion and a friend to many. Libby moved to Lexington, Kentucky in 1968 to serve as a governess for the Madden family, soon after she attended Eastern Kentucky University. Ultimately, she began her 42 year career as a hostess at the Red Lobster on Nicholasville Road. In April, she had finally retired and moved back to LaGrange to live with her sister Valerie. During her life in Lexington, Libby was a devoted member of the St. Luke’s Methodist Church, where she was an active member and touched the lives of many people. After taking an Emmaus Walk, she had such a personal and spiritual experience, her life’s mission was to sponsor others; which she did several times over. Sadly, on October 4, 2020, she and her sister were in terrible car accident, both were seriously injured, three weeks later, she succumb to her injuries and went to join the Lord. Libby is survived by her five siblings, Donna Celeste Brown (Bodie) of Porter Corners, NY; Joe Ray Mattingly (Vicki) of Lebanon, TN; Valerie Sutherland of LaGrange, KY; Charles ‘Chucky’ Mattingly of Pendleton, KY; and Mary Catherine Leanhart (Tony) of Bedford, KY; as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Given the situation with the pandemic, the family is having a memorial service in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated for the Emmaus Walk at St. Luke's Methodist Church at 2351 Alumni Dr., Lexington, KY 40517.
