Louis John Haak

Lou died peacefully at Parkview Memory Care at Paradise Village on October 14, 2023, at 94 years of age. He was born January 25, 1929, in Madison, Wisconsin. He began his banking career in 1947, at First National Bank Madison. Lou enlisted in the Navy in 1951, serving until 1955 and was discharged at Long Beach Naval Station. He reentered the banking field with First National Bank, San Diego and remained until 1973.In April of 1973 he joined La Jolla Bank and Trust Company (in formation) and the bank opened for business in September of that year. Lou was the Chief Financial Officer. He served in that capacity until La Jolla Bank was sold to Security Pacific Bank in September 1991. It was then he retired to enjoy his family and his love of golf. He and his wife Shirley were members of Sycuan (Singing Hills) Country Club beginning in 1976.

Survivors include Shirley Haak, his wife of 75 years, daughters Julie Vega (Michael) of La Habra Heights, CA, Nancy Witte (Fred) of Alpine, CA. Lou's survivors also include 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at Santa Sophia Catholic Church on October 25, 2023. The Rosary will begin at 9:30am with the mass to follow at 10am. Lou will be interred at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, located at 45th and Hilltop Drive, San Diego, CA 92102.
