James Daniel Spradlin, 69, of San Diego, California entered eternal LIFE on April 24, 2023, and is with God. It was so difficult to leave his loving wife, Julie, and his son AJ and AJ’s wife, Jayme. Jim was the youngest of three children, survived by his brother, Jack, and sister, Patty. Jim battled ALS with fierce determination and bravery. He provided comfort to others even though he was suffering from a very difficult disease. He is now joined in Heaven with his amazing daughter, Brooke, and his parents.
Jim entered this life on September 22, 1953. He was a Southern California native and one of a kind! He was humble, kind, helpful and always the gentleman. He had a very dry sense of humor and a twinkle in his bright, blue eyes. Jim was a loving husband, and father, very proud and happiest when he was surrounded by his family—his treasures.
Jim was an outstanding athlete. He was a phenomenal golfer and played hockey for San Diego State. He had a passion for sports, recently attending the 2022 Super Bowl and Stanley Cup Finals with his son, AJ.
Jim was a multi-talented man. Not only was he a talent working in IT most of his career, but he was also an avid photographer, private pilot, diver, and creative craftsman in home remodeling.
Jim and Julie found time to travel. They explored parts of Europe, Iceland and traveled to exotic places where they held tigers, were picked up by the trunks of elephants, ejected out of the water by dolphins and cuddled koala bears.
We celebrate Jim as the amazing man he was on Earth and as the Angel he is in Heaven.
OTHERS, LORD, YES OTHERS
Lord, help me live from day to day in such a self-forgetful way That even when I kneel to pray My prayers shall be for others.
Others, Lord, Yes Others, let this my motto be, help me to live for others that I may live like thee.
Help me in all the work I do to ever be sincere and true and know that all I’d do for you must needs be done for others.
Let self be crucified and slain and buried deep and all in vain May efforts be to rise again, unless to live for others.
And when my work on earth is done and my new work in Heavens begun, May I forget the crown I’ve won, when thinking still of others.
