Michael had a passion for ministry, especially children and youth ministries. He loved to start church services with a joke. Michael was a talented musician, loved live music, and walking his dog Rufus on the beach. He was a Batman aficionado. He enjoyed traveling through Napa Valley with his wife, playing trains with his grandsons, cheering his children on at sporting events, and hunting with his son. Michael was an avid fisherman, a Texas Longhorn fan, and a great cook. He was known for his quick wit and good humor. Michael was previously a leader in Boys & Girls Clubs in Marble Falls, Burnet and Austin and Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Madre. As an ordained United Methodist minister, he was most recently pastor of First United Methodist Church in Mercedes. He was a man of many talents.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Debra “Debbie” Wilson Quist; his children, Danielle (Cody) Bornowski, Joshua Quist, Rachel Wilson, Myra Wilson; his grandchildren, Jasmine Bornowski, Trinity Bornowski, Amelia Bornowski, Conrad Chavez-Wilson, Santiago Chavez, and William Bornowski; his parents, Rev. Roy and Elizabeth Quist; his siblings, Rev. Joanna (Norm) Dietz and Timothy (Mary Beth) Quist; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marybeth Quist.
A Celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Friday, December 28th at 10 a.m. at the Mercedes First United Methodist Church.
