Irene was a loving mother and grandmother. She was best known for her giving nature and her strong faith in the Lord. From a young age, to when she passed, she would turn to the voice of her favorite musician, Elvis Presley, for comfort. She was also known for caring for her grandchildren and tending to, or admiring, the roses in her garden. Her weekends were spent cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Gomez, parents, Frank and Valree Marez, her siblings, Frances (John, dec.), Danny (Amy), and Rudy (Barbara, dec.). She is survived by her siblings Sarah (Raul) Treto, Henry (Janie, dec.) Marez, her children, Elizabeth Gomez, Deborah (Lawrence) King, Frank (Patty) Gomez, Julian (Deedee) Gomez II, her grandchildren, Valree Cortez, Julian Gomez III, Hillary Cortez, Angelique Garcia, Kimberly Romero, Julianne Gomez, and her great-grandchildren Rudy Martinez Jr., Julian Z. Garcia, and Georgio A. Garcia.
Irene married her high school sweetheart, Julian Gomez, in 1957. They were best known for hosting their extended family for many beautiful gatherings.
A visitation for Irene will be held Friday, October 20, 2023 from 9:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a chapel service at 10:00 a.m. at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 26873 N. White Ranch Road, La Feria, Texas 78559. A burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Heavenly Grace Memorial Park.
