Edgar Emir Escandon

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edgar Emir Escandon, who passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, at the age of 47. A beloved husband, father, son, dedicated worker, and passionate outdoorsman, Edgar lived a life that embodied hard work, quiet reflection, and a love for the simple pleasures in life.

Born in Weslaco, Texas, on May 25, 1977, Edgar grew up with a strong sense of family and a deep appreciation for nature. From a young age, he found peace in the outdoors, whether hunting in the crisp, early mornings or fishing in secluded spots by calm rivers and lakes. For him, there was no greater joy than the stillness of a quiet stream or the thrill of an early-morning hunt, always relishing the solitude and connection to the natural world.

For the past two years, Edgar fought a brave battle with cancer, facing each day with the same determination and quiet strength that defined his life. Though the fight was long and challenging, he never lost his spirit, and his resilience in the face of adversity inspired all who knew him.

In his professional life, Edgar devoted 29 years of his career to working in sanitation. He was known for his unwavering commitment to his job and his dependable, hardworking nature. His colleagues respected him not just for his work ethic, but for the kindness and respect he showed to everyone he met. Whether he was handling the demands of his daily work or lending a helping hand to friends and family, Edgar was always the first to offer assistance with a humble smile.

An avid carpenter, Edgar spent countless hours crafting pieces of furniture and building home with his own hands. His workshop was a place where he found peace, and his projects—whether a well-crafted table or a lovingly restored piece of woodwork—were a reflection of his attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Edgar will be remembered as a man who found joy in the simple things—whether that was the solitude of a fishing trip, the satisfaction of completing a carpentry project, or the quiet companionship of those he loved. His dedication to his family, his work, and his hobbies left a lasting impression.

He was preceded in death by his mother Nora Escandon. Edgar is survived by his wife Gabriela Escandon, his son Edgar Emir Escandon Jr., his stepchildren Jacob Mares, and Kalup Mares, his sister Gabriela Escandon-Martinez (Robert), his niece and nephew Illeanna Martinez and Robert Martinez III, his father Ilibaldo Escandon, and his best friend Ringo Perales, and numerous friends who cherished him for his warmth, generosity, and steady presence.

2 Timothy 4:7-8: " I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing."
