Thomas G. Cox, age 80, of Kokomo, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024 at Brickyard Nursing Home in Kokomo, Indiana. He was born on July 13, 1943, in Muncie, Indiana, the son of the late Don Lester and Mary Catherine (George) Cox. Tom graduated from Muncie Memorial High School. He had his own band in high school, called the Sandman Band. Tom played the bass guitar and was really good at it. He also loved to dance, and was great at that as well. Shortly after graduation, he joined the army for a short period of time. On August 8, 1980, he married Carolyn Bitner. They had a daughter Andrea in September of 1981. After their divorce, he met Carolyn Barker, who was his life-long partner. Tom worked at Pizza King, Marhoefer, Adams Roofing Co. in Muncie Indiana, before moving to Kokomo, where he worked for Chrysler and Z&H Construction, from which he later retired. He loved rock-n-roll and country music. He enjoyed sitting in his garage tinkering with his tools, collecting scrap and working on push lawn mowers. He loved spending time with his family and will be deeply missed.
Tom is survived by his long time partner, Carolyn Barker, of Kokomo; daughter, Andrea (Aaron) Locklear, of Kokomo; step-daughter, Tammy Herin, of Texas; step-son, Richard (Rhonda) Barker, of Florida; brother, Jerry Cox, of New Castle; sisters, Patty Nesbit, of Muncie, Barb Sharan, of Muncie, Karen Nessler, of Kokomo; grandchildren, Cameron Coombs, Ciara Coombs, and Corey Coombs, Joshua (Felicia) Barker, of Texas, Holly Murray, of Texas, and Chrystal Barker, of Florida; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Mary; sisters, Susan Kay Cox and Judy Aguilana; brothers-in-law, Dr. Porter Nesbitt and Gary Shannon; and step-son, Kent Barker.
A time of visitation for Thomas will be held Monday, April 1, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Ellers Mortuary, 725 S. Main Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46901, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM.
Thomas will be laid to rest in Albright Cemetery , Kokomo, IN 46902.
