October 5, 1944 – November 26, 2021
Richard Leigh Hagen 77, quietly made the transition from this life on November 26, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. He was born in Jackson Hole, Wyoming on October 5, 1944 to the late Louis Harry Hagen and Lucile May (Kooyman) Hagen who were wonderful parents. Within weeks, the family re-located to North Ogden, Utah where he enjoyed an exciting boyhood. He married Norma Jo Bennett on January 29, 1966 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Kokomo, Indiana. That marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah Temple on August 3, 1966. Norma passed away on November 8, 2014.
At the age of 19 Rich accepted a call to serve a two year Church mission to the Great Lakes Mission (Indiana, Ohio and Michigan). Rich later graduated from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah with a degree in Accounting. He has been employed in Quality Control at Chrysler Corporation , as an Accounting Supervisor at Cuneo Press of Indiana, as Controller at Kier Corporation, Ogden, Utah, and 24 years as the Budget Supervisor and then as the Manager of Provider Reimbursement at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Indiana. He felt blessed to work with wonderful people at each of those places of employment. He was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved his Church family
Surviving is a son, Dennis R. Herron, Kokomo; a grandson, Joshua T. Herron (Tracey) of Tipton, two great-grandchildren, Riley and Gabrielle Herron, Tipton; a daughter-in-law, Janice Retz (John) of Windfall, two brothers, Russell L. Hagen (Karren) of Goleta, California and Dr. Jerold L. Hagen (Dolores) of Washington, Utah; two sisters-in-law, Dixie Bennett and Marilyn J. Garber both of Kokomo. There are numerous other members of both his Western and Mid-Western families whom he dearly loved.
In addition to Norma, he was preceded in death by his parents, Louis H. and Lucile M. Hagen; a brother, Donald L. Hagen, one favorite sister, Elisabeth Hagen, a son, Ricky L. Herron; one great-grandson, Konner Kakasuleff, six brothers-in-law, William C. Bennett, George R. Bennett, Jackie E. Bennett, Norman Wisher, Jackie E. Garber and Raymond Winslow, two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Winslow and Sharon Wisher.
Wonderful, almost daily care has been provided by a very dear friend, Connie J. Purvis and close family, Tom and Stacey Tedlock. It was priceless and made all the difference.
A celebration of Life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; 332 Center Rd., Kokomo, IN 46902 on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021 at 11am. You may continue fellowship with the family during a luncheon following the service.
Richard will be buried in North Ogden, Utah at the Ben Lomond Cemetery next to his sister, Elisabeth Hagen.
