His parents were Andrew and Ida Mae Chapman Lundy, in that union thirteen children were born, but only seven survived. Lula, Sally, Andrew, Paul, Vivian, Melvin and Ileen. Both parents preceded him in death. His father, Andrew senior died April 29, 1978.
After graduating from East Tech High School in Cleveland Ohio, he joined the United States Army. He attended Jump School at Fort Benning, Georgia, and became a Paratrooper and he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He served 9 1/2 years. After the service, he worked many odd jobs.
He then decided to attend college on the Gl Bill. He attended Cuyahoga Community College, pursuing a career in Engineering. While there he met and married Theresa Marie Harper on October 3, 1975.
After graduating from Cuyahoga Community, he attended the University of Akron. He became the first black Mechanical Engineer at N.A.S.A., National Aeronautics and Space Administration in Brook park, Ohio. While there, he received many awards and recognition from the many projects he worked on at NASA.
1. Successful flight of the Second United States Microgravity Laboratory flown aboard Columbia STS-73. October 20-November 5, 1995.
2. Advanced Communications Technology Satellite Switchboard in the Sky.
3. Casper Allen STS62 Thuot Geonar and many others. He retired from NASA Lewis Research Center int 1989.
After retiring from NASA, he went back to the work field as a guard for Brinks, a top salesman selling new cars. He attended truck driving school and drove 18 wheelers cross county, and his wife Terri accompanied him on many of the trips.
Paul was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit over 40 years ago. He was Ordained as a Deacon,November 5, 2017 at Faith Tabernacle of the Holy Spirit in Jonesboro, Georgia by Elder James Steed. Paul and Theresa were made Honorary Elders at New Testament Gospel Worldwide Ministries by Pastor T. Lynn Oliver.
In departing Paul leaves loving memories to be cherished by wife Terri; two sisters Sally Colston and
Ileen Tye; sons Sterling (Stephanie), Christian (Tequesha), and Tobias (Cheri); daughter Tawana; grandchildren Jasmon, Rene, Jaylyn, Shelton, Chardonnay, Tristian, Shayma, KaiLei, JahNigal, JaiArie, Josiah, Jaxson and JaiAnna; nephews Tony Lundy, Geronimo Houston and a host of others; nieces Carmella Usher, Nicky Harper and host of others; brothers-in-law Robert "Sunny" Harper and Clifford Tye; and sister-in-law Truella Harper.
A wake for Paul will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Ellers Mortuary & Crematory Center, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902, followed by a homegoing service from 12:00 PM-1:00PM officiated by Pastor Katherine Johnson, and missionary Lisa Gunn soloing.
