Gertrude “Trudy” Barker, age 88, of Knoxville, passed away on November 26, 2015. She was a member of First Christian Church of Knoxville for over 60 years. Some of her passions included bowling, playing board games, being an expert cook and gardening. Her most important role in life was being devoted to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents: mother, Rachel Swift Banner; father and stepmother, George Philip and Margaret Elizabeth Higdon, Sr., and her husband, W. Jack Barker, Sr. Survivors include her sons: W. Jack Barker, Jr. (Connie) and John Barker (Peggy); daughter, Judi Barker; grandchildren: Susan Forbes (Bryan), Jack Allen Barker and Kellye Carpenter (Robert); greatgrandchildren: Raegan Forbes, Matthew Forbes, Alex Barker, Abby Barker, Megan Henley, Lauren Henley, Sara Carpenter and Ryan Carpenter, brother, G. Philip Higdon, Jr. (Millie), sister, Margaret Harris (Bill), along with several nieces, nephews, and her dog, Sugar. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 29th from 5:00-7:00 pm in the chapel of Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 7 o’clock with Rev. Toby Everett and Mary Lou Kanipe, officiating. Entombment will be held on Monday at 10:00 am in Lynnhurst Cemetery.
