I will remember Sarah most for her hugs and her sense of humor. We had many laughs together. I felt comfortable enough to walk into her house and announce, “Honey, I’m home,” and we would share a giggle and a hug.  

My most fond memory was probably when I saw her at Lifecare when she was there for rehab the same time my mother was there. I had a chance to introduce her to my teenage daughter and the three of us talked for just a few minutes. As I was saying goodbye that night, I gave Sarah a hug and an “I love you.”  My daughter hugged her too and said, “I know I just met you, but I already love you too.”  Sarah was a very lovable person and I will miss her dearly. 

In 1976, I was assigned a teaching position at Doyle Middle School.  I was the first Black teacher to have ever taught there. I was quite apprehensive, but people like Sarah Reynolds welcomed  me into the DMS family right away.  Not only was Sarah one of my office mates, but she and I taught some classes together.  Sarah, Jack, and Kitty made a special place in their hearts for me and my daughters.  Kitty even attempted to teach one of them how to ride a horse.   Sarah would always remember my daughters coming to her house to play "Happy Birthday" on their violins to her mother.  Sarah will always have a special place in my heart and will never be forgotten.


I remember Sarah as the most patient person I ever worked with.  She helped me develop compassion for those with learning problems.  I will always be grateful for knowing her.  I have been blessed to know her and her family.

Sarah was a wonderful lady who always brought a smile to my face. I always enjoyed time spent with you. Thank you for always allowing me to use your restroom even when I didn’t have a quarter :)

I’m thankful for sweet memories with Sarah.  She was always great about including our family as if we were her own.  My favorite is the summer she met with me on her porch to spend time tutoring me. It is a memory I’ve recalled several times as I teach my children from my home.  She was kind and gentle.  She will be dearly missed till the other side of heaven.  Thankful for the gospel of Christ! 

When I became a deacon at First Baptist Church, I chose the homebound ministry as my area of service. I was assigned to Sarah and Jack. When I called Sarah to introduce myself, she was warm and welcoming, told me to come by to visit anytime. And she meant it. From the moment she met me, she treated me like family and I felt right at home immediately. Over the years that didn’t change, even after Jack died and her own health began to rapidly decline. One afternoon when I stopped by for a visit, she wasn’t feeling well, so I sat by her bed and  we chatted.  We heard the doorbell, and Kitty said, oh I know who that is. In a few minutes 2 ladies come down the hall and joined us. Turned out they were Jehovahs Witnesses whom Sarah had befriended when they came by one day. Instead of sending them away, in typical Sarah fashion she’d invited them in to visit, and so it began.  I will always be grateful for the 5 years of friendship and love Sarah gave me.  She became a second mother to me, and I will miss her delightfully wry sense of humor and her stories. 

Sarah was a gifted special education teacher.  She believed in her students and encouraged them to believe in themselves.  She was always positive and upbeat with a warm smile for everyone.  She was a blessing to all who were lucky enough to know her.

I have good memories of  visiting Sarah & her Mother - bringing ladies from Inskip - Mrs Tucker, my Mom and others - Sarah was always pleasant and welcoming to us.

I have so many memories of holiday family gatherings. Crowded with so much good food and overlapping conversations. Aunt Sarah and Uncle Jack were such welcoming hosts.

Kitty and David, 
I'm so sorry to hear of Sarah's passing.  Please know that Michael and I are thinking about you all during this time and praying for peace and comfort.  I have so many fond memories and fun times with Sarah that I would be writing here all day.  To sum it all up,  she was a mentor, friend, counselor, teacher, and family member.  One of my most fondest memories was taking Lori and I to church at Rockford Baptist and introducing us to the Lord.  We sat right up near the front of the church with her.  I would enjoy singing beside her those marvelous hymns.  Please accept our condolences.  Love always,

Kitty and David:    Our Sarah took in dogs,  cats and people. She shared her life and heart and her wisdom was kindly dispensed when requested.  We will miss her presence here,  but imagine the rejoicing in Heaven.  My family has been blessed to call her friend.  We share in your grieving.
