She was a dedicated member of Logan Temple AME Zion Church where she served faithfully as a missionary and wherever else needed.
After 43 years of service, she retired from St. Mary’s Hospital where she devoted her life. Sarah started out as a unit clerk, becoming an instructor for Unit Clerk classes, then went into computer operations. She set up a chart depot, including one in Scott County. She was involved in Relay for Life and Camp Blue Bird for cancer patients. Sarah played Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny at work, church, nursing home and hospital. She was a person who wanted to be involved. She was also an active member of the Garden Study Club and received many ribbons.
She was preceded in death by parents, John and Rachel Humphrey; sister, Martha Ellen Tuggle; and beloved friend, William Walker. Left to cherish her memories are a devoted and dedicated daughter, Angela King; granddaughter, Jaiden Phillips; devoted dear friends, Steve Phillips and Bill Wilson; a loving sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Charles (Flip) Strader; sisters in name only, Alberta Greene and Helen Banks; nephews, Chip and John Strader, Michael Wayne (Clyde) Bradley; nieces in name only, Rhonda and Vanessa Walker; godchildren, Dommonick (Shawn) and JaMel Walker, Anson Staples, Makayla Stephens, little Dommonick Jr.; and family from Morganton, NC. Devoted friends to include Sharon Crippen, William Walker, George and Wilma Stacy, Kelly, Nikki and Kaila Cummings, Christy Newman, Wilber (Puddin) Sims, and many, many more.
Special thanks and appreciation to the sisters and friends at St. Mary’s Hospital, NHC Nursing Home, Caris Hospice Care, and her church family at Logan Temple AME Zion Church.
A memorial service will be held at Logan Temple AME Zion Church, 2744 Selma Ave., Knoxville, TN 37914, on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Diabetes Association, 211 Center Park Drive, Knoxville, TN 37922.
