Armstrong, Samuel (Sam) Eugene Sr., age 81 of Knoxville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at home surrounded by family after his courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 24, 1932, in Knoxville, TN. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, a 1950 graduate of South High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force, retired from East Tennessee Packing Company, owner of Salvage Lumber Company, Member of Masonic Lodge, and in his free time enjoyed gardening, fishing, and was an avid sports fan. He was a true family man. Sam was son of late Sidney and Clara Armstrong. He was also preceded in death by his brother Robert (Bob) Armstrong. Survivors include: wife of 55 years Cheryl Armstrong; children: Sammye Pilant (Jeff), Kim Armstrong, Sheri “Missy” Parler (Bill), Russell Armstrong (Linda), Kristi Fehr (Geoff), Tabatha Raines (Brian), Samuel Armstrong Jr. (Angela); and he was Papaw to six grandchildren: Brandon, Dylan, and Ryan Fehr, Sydney, Seth, and Evan Armstrong.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 8th from 5-7 PM at McCarty-Evergreen Funeral Home with the Celebration of Life to begin at 7:00, Cesar Correa officiating. Family and friends will meet on Wednesday at 11:00am at Asbury Cemetery for the interment service. Serving as pallbearers will be the grandsons, Brian Raines, and Bill Parler.
