Rita Helen Brooks

Beloved wife and mother, Rita Fleming Brooks, entered the gates of Heaven on November 11, 2024. Rita was born on June 22, 1936 in Clintwood, Virginia, the eldest of Gaines and Agnes Fleming’s four children who survived to adulthood. Rita met and married her husband, Linville, in Baltimore, Maryland where they lived before moving to Marion, Virginia after the birth of their daughter, Brenda.

Rita enjoyed a career in healthcare. She worked for Southwestern State Hospital in Marion, earned her nursing degree in 1990, and practiced as a registered nurse until her retirement. After retirement, Rita and Linville moved to Knoxville to be closer to their family. Rita is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Linville Brooks, her daughter Brenda Brooks, son-in-law Bob Patterson, and beloved grandson, Cole Patterson. Rita is also survived by her sister, Nina Maxwell, and brother, Charles Fleming; brother-in-law, James Mullins; and many nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Mullins, earlier this year. Rita’s family meant the world to her. Rita is also survived by her dear church family at Meridian Baptist Church. Her love and compassion touched so many. Rita’s life is a testimony to her tremendous faith in Jesus Christ.

Family and friends will gather to honor Rita at Meridian Baptist Church, 6513 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920, with a visitation on Saturday, November 15, 2024 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, with a funeral service to follow at 5:00pm, service to be officiated by Rev. Michael Martin. Family and friends will gather for a committal service at Rose Lawn Cemetery, 4410 Lee Highway, Marion, VA 24354 on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 2:00pm, service to be officiated by Rev.Avery Sheets. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Meridian Baptist Church, 6513 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920 or to a charity of your choice.
