Richard S Childs

Richard S. (Dick) Childs, passed away on June 4, 2015. He was born in Keiser, Arkansas on February 3, 1933. Dick was a standout in track and field, basketball and football at Keiser High School. He enthusiastically supported U.T. athletics especially during coach Majors era. Dick attended the University of Mississippi and graduated from University of Memphis and LSU School of Banking. He was a Sgt. in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He began his career with First Tennessee Bank in Memphis rising to Vice President. He was President and CEO of the C&C Bank of Knox County, and he retired from the Regions Bank in Memphis. Dick was a founding member of Club LeConte. He was past president of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Audit Committee of the 1982 World’s Fair; he served on the Tourist Commission; past Board member of the Southeastern U.S.A. Boy Scouts of America; Past President of the Great Smokey Mountain Council B.S.A.; Past President of Junior Achievement of Knoxville; Past President of The National Conference of Christians and Jews and The United Way of Knoxville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Knoxville, a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. Dick is preceded in death by parents, Kirk and Ilo Sherrick Childs and son, Richard, Jr. He is survived by his wife Lea Childs; daughter, Terri Childs; son, Jim Childs; granddaughters, Shelby and Amy Childs; sisters, Ruth Stoffle and Judith Smithart of Memphis. Family will receive friends Saturday, June 13, 2015 from 5:00-7:00pm at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway. Service will follow at 7:00pm with Dr. Tom Ogburn and Rev. Dave Ward officiating. Family and friends will meet at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway, Monday, June 15, 2015 at 10:00am and leave in procession to East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Gov.
