He was a devoted member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. He greatly loved his Heavenly Father, his family and his church family. He was a veteran of the Korean War and retired from the United States Post Office. Ralph (Papaw) loved to spend time with his family and friends by sitting on the porch or sitting around a campfire.
Ralph was preceded in death by his loving wife Artha, second wife Carolyn; mother and father, Earnest and Ella; siblings, Margaret, Jim, Sue, and Glen; in-laws, Dott (Susy), Nanabelle (Junior), and Warren (Helen); step-son, Joe Hensley.
He is survived by his children Cathy, Kenny (Beth), Karen, and Kent (Ginger); grandchildren, Josh (Amanda) Armstrong, Emily (Travis) Brooks, Noah Armstrong; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Elizabeth, Emerson, Baker, Everett, and James; sisters Edith and Nancy, step-daughter, Conni Skidmore and family, the family of his step-son Joe Hensley, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Open calling hours will be held for Ralph at Berry Highland South Funeral Home, 9010 E. Simpson Rd., Knoxville, TN 37920 on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Family and friends will gather at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4500 Woodlawn Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920 on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 for a Graveside Service at 2:00 pm with Pastor Kenny Armstrong and Pastor Keith Vaughn to officiate the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the mission fund at Valley Grove Baptist Church, 9000 Sevierville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920.
