Mr. Pickens taught my son in HS and made him write all the countries several times for acting up. He and Mrs. Pickens always kept their house and yard so perfect. With the best flowers!

I’ll miss seeing him around the neighborhood.

I had the honor of knowing this family since I was 2 1/2 yrs old.  Raised at Sevier Hghts Church and Paula was my Jr. Bridesmaid.  The family was so special and still are to me as their realtor for their son's college needs for a condo, I respect Minta and Paula's family and felt honored I knew Paul as well.  I was hoping to give Minta a hug at the service, but I will be sure and see her in  the future.  Prayers and Love are with all of you at this time.

I was in Paul’s Sunday School class for many years, and he was one the best teachers of the Word! He was so caring about others. In 2009 my brother and I had to put our Mom in Assisted Living because she had Alzheimer’s, and her husband had passed away. I lived in TN, and Mom and my brother Don lived in CA. It broke Don’s heart to take our Mom that day. After asking my class to pray for my brother, Paul asked everyone to send Don prayer cards to encourage him. To this day my brother talks about how that got him through such a tough time. Paul was so kind! We are praying for Minta and the family at this time, asking God to comfort all of you! I was so sad to see Mr. Pickens obituary.  What an impression he made on me!  Oh the times I heard “Johnson, give me an 815!”.  That was page 815 in our history book and you had to copy a chart of every President and allllllll the details that line included about that President.  Any words that could be substituted for God earned you an 815.  I had a habit of saying “oh my gosh” a lot!  In the next breath though he was asking me to grade papers, which was a special task!  He cared about his students, and I always felt that with him!  
I always loved seeing him at church as well.  Mr. Pickens was the type of man you knew “walked the walk”.   He will be missed from this life, but I’m grateful we will meet again!

You made me write countries more times than I can remember, and you help me accountable when I needed it. You were a special teacher. Grateful to have known you.

I was so sorry to hear that Paul passed away.  It was such a great pleasure teaching with him at Doyle and South Doyle all those many years. I've never known a kinder person. My thoughts are with you both.

Paul was my parent's Sunday School teacher (Bill & Betty Hood) for many years at Sevier Heights Baptist Church until they both passed in '21. They loved him and his dear wife! He was a fantastic teacher and taught the Word with great respect, love and integrity to all who would listen.  He sees by sight now what he knew by faith! 
Prayers for his many friends and the family.  Karen had him as a teacher at Doyle back in the day and loved him too!

I had returned from Florida after 30yrs. to help with Jane before she passed & the door bell rang one day & there he was with a basket of cucumbers ❤️ I’m sure he was proud of you & you’re beautiful family & those adorable grandkids!! Condolences 🙏 to The Pickens Fam during this time of loss. Mr Pickens was a great man and teacher. Geology Teacher for a lot of us at DHS 1984.

To the Pickens family, 

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Pickens' passing.  He was a great history teacher and an even better man.  My parents loved him as a Sunday School teacher at Sevier Heights.  I just saw him a few weeks ago at my mother's funeral, and he looked just like I remembered him at Doyle.  I know he is in the presence of his Lord and Savior today, completely healed.
