Paul Conrad Johnson, 86, of Louisville, TN went to be with the Lord, on Friday morning,
September 3, 2021 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Paul was born on February 19th of 1935 to Paul Augustus and Marjorie Conrad Johnson in Wichita, KS. On June 27, 1959, he married his dearly beloved wife of 62 years, Joyce Johnson, in Brockton, MA. He received a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering from New York University and went on to become a second lieutenant in the Air Force, flying a F-86H Sabre airplane. He earned his M.Div. in 1972 from Tennessee Temple Seminary in Chattanooga, TN.
Paul was a man of faith who deeply loved his God, his family, and his country. He enjoyed writing, sailing and boating, riding his motorcycle with his wife and friends, and playing his pan flute. In 1999, he reconstructed an antique Appalachian log cabin, Hemlock House, as a home and gathering place for the family. One of his greatest joys, later in life, was becoming a chaplain for Hospice with Blount Memorial Hospital.
He tenaciously held on to life and is survived by his wife, Joyce Johnson; his children, Wendy Laman and her husband Steve, Terri Edwards and her husband Tom, Brett Johnson and his wife Pam, and his grandchildren, Cortney Horne, Hunter Johnson, Kristen Casteel, and his great-grandchildren, Wyeth, Knox, Kishan, and Anna Joy Casteel, and Anna and Julie Johnson.
A funeral service will be held Monday, September 13, 2021 at 10:30 AM in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920, officiated by Rev. John Casteel. Family and friends will go in procession immediately following the funeral service to East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 East Governor John Sevier Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920 for a 12:30 PM Committal Service.
