John Henry Murphy, Sr. , 71, of Wartburg and formerly of Lenoir City, passed away on March 31, 2017. He was born in Maryville on January 21, 1946 to the late Roy and Annie Murphy. John enjoyed being outdoors fishing, mowing, and most recently at horse stables as he loved being around horses. He was also an avid bowler, traveling to Las Vegas and New York to compete and had seven 300 games. In between running his own pressure washing business, John worked for the Knox County School System as a bus driver and custodian for over 20 years. He is preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Allen. John leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 29 years, Ethel; brother, Frank; sister, Betty Likens; son, John Murphy, Jr. and his wife, Jodi; daughters, Sharon Baker and Brenda Smith; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at 2 pm at Berry Highland West Funeral Home, 9913 Sherrill Blvd, Knoxville, TN 37932 with entombment to follow. Please join the family in celebrating John’s life from 12 to 2 pm prior to the service.
