John O'Brien Evans Sr.

John O’Brien Evans, Sr., was born on December 10, 1934 in his parent’s home on Harmon Road, in Powell, TN. He attended Powell High School and graduated in 1953 where he was the captain of the Basketball team in his senior year. He was # 10 on the roster and # 1 in Penny’s heart. He studied civil engineering at the University of Tennessee and graduated in 1957. He worked in the engineering division at the Y-12 plant in Oak Ridge beginning in 1957 and retired in 1997. On November 26, 1966, he married Elizabeth Ann Nicol and they were blessed with two children, John O’Brien II and Elizabeth Anita. He was a member of Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder. He loved all sports, especially softball, golfing, and bowling. John was preceded in death by parents, Oscar and Jeanette Evans, and son, Brien. Survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Penny), daughter, Beth (Steve) Gibson; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Evans; grandchildren, Nicolas and Katie; brother, O.E. (Mary Sue) Evans, and sister-in-law, Donna (Larry) Bishop of Brandon, MS. Family will receive friends Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church from 4:00-6:00 pm with funeral to follow at 6:00 pm. Dr. Thomas Sweet officiating. Burial will be private.
