James “Jim” Slover gained his wings Wednesday, December 4, 2024. He was born in Maynardville, TN, lived most of his life in Strawberry Plains. He was the backbone of his family. A man of few words, but when he spoke it was well worth listening to. He was a true gentleman and family man in every aspect of the words. He worked for Lucent Technologies for 40 years. He was a Veteran of the Air National Guard and worked during his retirement as the treasurer for the Amvets Post 104, a passion he truly enjoyed. He loved traveling to meetings with his Amvets buddies. He cherished his time with them. He always had a smile and kind word. His grandchildren were his world. He would carry them to the ends of the earth if he could have.
Preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. and Anne Slover; 10 siblings and his wife Mary.
His life will live on through his son, Jeff (Courtney); 3 grandchildren, Trinity, Bryce, and Ripley; great-grandchild, Isaac; niece, Sandy. A special thank you to TSICU team at UT Hospital.
Visitation we be Monday, December 16, 2024, from 5 – 7pm at McCarty Evergreen Chapel, 7426 Asheville Hwy, Knoxville, TN. The graveside service will be at Strawberry Plains Cemetery Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 1pm. Military Honors will be provided by Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.
