James H. Knight Jr.

James H. Knight, Jr., born January 1, 1921, died at home on October 7, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years Wanda Williams Knight. James was a 75 year member of IBEW. He served in World War II in the Pacific Theater aboard the U.S.S. Whitley and took part in the battle of Iwo Jima. James worked for TVA for forty two years retiring as superintendent of Power Construction. He contributed over 12,000 volunteer hours to BVI, a TVA retiree organization. James was a long time member of New Hope Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Masonic Lodge F&AM. James enjoyed tailgating and attending UT football games since the 1950’s.

James was father of Sue (and Greeley) Wells, James H. Knight III (and Laurie Denney), Janie Knight, and Liz (and Rick) Honeycutt. He was Granddad to John (and Jill) Wells, Laura (and JJ) Singley, Jake (and Lauren) Honeycutt, and Cerise Knight. James was Greatdad to Jack and Casey Singley, Claire, Madeleine and Lucy Wells, Olivia Knight, and Hudson Honeycutt.

A Reception with friends and family will be held on Monday, October 9 from 5-7 pm in the Fellowship Hall of New Hope Presbyterian Church, 1705 Merchants Drive. A Celebration of Life will follow at 7 pm in the Sanctuary. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 pm Tuesday for the 1 pm graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery.
