James Eldridge Branson passed away at Park West Hospital June 29, 2017 after a long battle with COPD. Born October 15, 1937. Preceded in death by first wife Mary Davis Branson; father and mother, Charles and Agnes Branson; grandparents: E.L. and Mary Hutchens, Horace and Tine Branson; special aunt Francis Benton. Survived by wife of 46 years, Peggy Branson; children: Robin L. Conte (Jeff), Salisbury, N.C., James David Branson (Penelope), Sandston, VA; Pamela A. Westfall, Nitro, West VA; Brian M. Branson, Blackhawk, CO; Jamie L. Kinsman, Carlsbad, CA; Four grandchildren: Christopher Von Ehrenfried, Dallas, TX, Lauren Womack, Petersburg, VA, Bret Elia (Katy), Richmond, VA; Alexis Kinsman, Carlsbad, CA; sisters: Charlotte Holzer (Richard), Dayton, OH, Brenda Waite (late Kelly), Belvedure, IL; special cousin, Wesley Benton, Lenoir City. Jim was a 1955 graduate from Central High, Fountain City, TN; a graduate of the University of TN in 1959, receiving a degree in accounting. He received his executive Master’s Degree in 1978 from Loyola College, Baltimore, Maryland, studying in the White House under President Carter’s term. Started his retail career with S.H. George & Son, then Rich’s and Miller’s Department Store as a Controller. In 1971, moved to Fairfax, VA with Parent Co. as a Controller at Corporate of Garfinkels, Brooks Brothers, Millers and Rhoads, Inc. and became controller and V.P. of Garfinkels Department Store. He went to Thalhimers in 1980 as CFO & Senior V.P. until May Co. of California bought Thalhimers. He then went with May Co. of California for 5 years and retired before returning home to Knoxville, TN in 1997. He then worked as a consultant for Little Switzerland for 8 years in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He finished his career with Hendrick’s Jewelers in Naples Florida. Jim served 11 years as a captain in the National Guard. He resigned his service in order to help raise his children. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm in the chapel of Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will follow at 7:30 with Lindy Apon of Parkway Baptist Church, officiating, where Jim was a member. Masonic Rights will follow from the the Beaver Ridge Masonic Temple. The Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, at 11:30 am in Lynnhurst Cemetery. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home by 11:00 am to go in procession to the cemetery.
