Isabelle Jeanette Wilkerson

Jeanette, age 93 was born May 30, 1924. She passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at the Wilkerson home place in Powell, TN. Preceded in death by her parents: Edgar and Pearl Wilkerson and brothers: Malcom, Harold, Glenn and sister, Geraldine. Survived by sisters: Kathleen Cortner, Tullahoma, TN and Lucile Livingston, Green Cove Springs, Florida. Jeanette lived at Powell, Tennessee and graduated in 1942 from Halls High School as valedictorian. In 1946, she received a Bachelor of Journalism Degree from the University of Missouri and in 1963 a Master of Arts Degree in English and Journalism from the University of Tennessee. Jeanette’s 30 year career was in radio, television and education as an editor, broadcaster and teacher. During her retirement years, she was a caregiver for her parents and sister Geraldine. Her dedication and compassion will always be a blessing to the family. Jeanette was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee and a member of the Singles Sunday School Class. Throughout her life, she served the Lord by teaching children and adult classes and in later years, a trainer in the Evangelism Explosion Outreach Program. She was a charter member of Fair Havens Baptist Church in Powell, Tennessee. A special thank you to her nieces Joan Lanahan and Janet Buchanan, for their loving care during her long illness. Also, thank you to U.T. Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 18, 2017 from 12 noon until 1:00 pm in the chapel of Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastoral Pastor Kent Williams and Pastor Norman Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
