PERRY, HAROLD (JACK) W - 89, passed away peaceful on Saturday June, 12th. Born June 10, 1921 in Sparta, TN to Gertrude and Walter Perry. They moved to Decherd, TN in 1928 and he graduated from Franklin County High School in June 1940. After enlisting in the U.S. Navy on August 5th, 1940, Jack served on three naval ships (USS Brooklyn, USS Roper & USS Henry Wiley) during his career and attended the Naval Mine Warfare School in Yorktown, VA. In addition to these assignments he also served at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hawthorne, Nevada. Accommodations awarded were American Defense Bronze (A), Asiatic Pacific, American Area Bronze (1), European Africa Bronze (2), victory and good conduct medals. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Mineman, First Class and served in the Naval Reserves until 1951. Jack began with Steel Service Company in Knoxville in 1960. During his 26 year career there he was the Shop Superintendent and was recognized for his attention to detail and conscientiousness regarding a safe and clean working environment for his employees. He retired in 1986. He is preceded in death by his wife, of 65 years, Lola B Perry; brother, Charles K Perry; and sister, Louise Barker. He is survived by his daughter, Connie & son-in-law, Jerry Carr (Chattanooga, TN), son, John Perry & daughter-in-law, Jan (Carson City, NV) and son, David Perry (Knoxville, TN); sister-in-law, June Perry; five grandchildren, Piper (Carr) Fly, Zachary, Lucas, David III, and John Wesley Perry; two great-grandchildren, Landon Perry and Adelaide (Addie) Fly.
