Bennett, Grace Alberta Levengood, age 97, of Knoxville went home to with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Saturday afternoon, December 23. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, November 12, 1920, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Albert J. Levengood, Sr. She was the valedictorian of the 1942 class of Bryan College, Dayton, TN. She was the Chief Chemist’s Secretary, Volunteer Ordnance Works, Chattanooga, during World War II. After that she was the medical secretary of the first neurosurgeon in East Tennessee. Grace was united in marriage to Robert Tener Bennett on August 30, 1953, in the Bryan College Chapel at Dayton, TN, with Grace’s father as the officiating minister. Their union was blessed with two sons, Jonathan L. and Richard M. Grace was a long time member of The Little Church in the Vale, Gates Mills, Ohio, and served as a Sunday School teacher, pianist, and choir director. After moving to Knoxville in 1995, she became a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church and the Saints Alive Sunday School class. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. (March 21, 2010), and her brothers Paul M. Levengood, Mark W. Levengood, and Albert J. Levengood, Jr. She is survived by her sister Miriam Levengood of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, sons Jonathan L. and wife Pamela of Cypress, TX, and Richard M. and wife Linda of Knoxville; granddaughter Laura Thress and husband Andrew Thress and great grandchildren Lydia Ruth and Bennett Robert; and granddaughters Bethany Bennett and Rebecca Bennett; sisters-in-law Joyce Levengood and Joan Levengood; also a number of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the pastoral staff and friends of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church for their prayers, support and encouraging visits. They also thank the staff of Building 5 of Deane Hill Place for their 9 years of care, and to L&L West Home Care for their compassionate care during her last 11 days. The family will receive friends at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church Chapel on Thursday December 28, 2017 from 3:00 -4:00PM with a memorial service immediately following.
