Hatmaker, Geneva Smith (Granny), age 87 of Lafollette, TN and most recently of Seymour, TN, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was a devoted follower of the Sevier Heights Baptist Church Television Ministry since she had been unable to attend church for several years due to her health. Granny was born in Laurel County, Kentucky on April 4, 1924 to parents Matt Smith and Pearl Engle Smith. She retired from South Central Bell Telephone Company in 1975 and was a Telephone Pioneer. Granny was preceded in death by her husband, Howard “Pete” Hatmaker; mother, Pearl Engle Smith and father Matt Smith; step-mother, Mary Smith and step-father, Gaither Bell; sisters: Irene Kellems, Mattie Page, and Brenda Hawkins; brothers: George Smith, Tommy Smith, and David Bell. Granny is survived by her son, Kent Hatmaker and wife Janet, of Seymour; three grandchildren who were the light of her life: Adam Hatmaker, Laurel Hatmaker, and Jennifer Hatmaker all of Seymour; sisters, Lorene Parsons of Harlan, Kentucky and Lois Grayson of Bristol, Virginia; Tommie Smith; brothers: Jim Smith and Matt Smith, of Bristol, Virginia; Price Smith; many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she dearly loved; and great neighbors who lovingly watched after her for many years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to either of two ministries that were special to her: The King’s Academy, 202 Smothers Road, Seymour, TN 37865 or Sevier Heights Baptist Church Television Ministry, 3232 Alcoa Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920. Family and friends will meet at Campbell County Memorial Gardens in Lafollette at 10:00 AM on Thursday for graveside services, Dr. Hollie Miller officiating.
