Floyd H. Chunn Jr. formerly of Smyrna, GA, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, at the age of 92. A native of Knoxville, TN, he attended Young High School and studied at his beloved University of Tennessee, graduating with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1956. While at UT, he played the trombone in the marching band and trained in the ROTC detachment, commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the United States Air Force. He served as a Navigator-Bombardier in the B-47 Stratojet at Hunter AFB, GA attaining the rank of Captain. He began his life’s work of 30+ years at the Lockheed-Martin Corporation in Marietta, GA involved in vital Department of Defense aircraft programs such as the C-130, C-141 and C-5 Galaxy. Living in Smyrna for over 62 years, Floyd was a long-time member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church and served with the Smyrna Civitans while regularly involved in the Lockheed Management Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, attending UT football games, visiting the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area and playing golf. Floyd (Sonny to his family) was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Floyd H. Chunn Sr of Knoxville, sisters Martha Culbert of Oak Ridge and Barbara Ruffner of Decatur, AL. He is survived by one sister, Mary Anderson, husband Kenneth, and his children and their spouses, Diane, Ronny, David, Kim, and stepdaughter Coryell. He was the grandfather to Dr. Raegan Chunn, Hayden Chunn and Carly. As a faithful and attentive father through the years, he will be missed by his family. Family and friends will gather to honor the legacy of Floyd on October 14, 2024, at 10:00am at East Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery, 2200 E. Governor John Sevier Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920.
