Carl D. Murphy Jr.

Murphy, Jr., Carl D., age 83, of South Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Physicians Regional Medical Center. Carl was a 1948 graduate of Young High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and returned two years later. Carl retired from Batson Himes, Norvell, & Poe with nearly 50 years of service. He was a member of Galilee Baptist Church. Preceded in death by wife of 51 years, Eleanor “Fay” Murphy; son, Mike Murphy; daughter, Beth Murphy Galyon; half-brother, Frank Jarnigan. Survivors include daughter-in-law, Beth Murphy, son-in-law, Jay Galyon; grandchildren, Courtney, Brandon, Adrienne Murphy and Jordan Galyon; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Gene Money; and his beloved dog, Jack. Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway, with a funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m., Rev. Jay Galyon officiating.
