Bill George, age 82, rejoiced in meeting the Lord on June 11, after passing away peacefully at his Knoxville home. Bill was a respected local businessman employed as Vice President of Collis Foods, Inc. Waffle House Franchisee for 27 years. Bill had also previously served as a police officer in the Metro Atlanta area. Bill was a beloved mentor to many, an avid golfer and animal lover. He will be honored in remembrance by those he endeared with his character, smile and genuine warmth.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Eva Newberry; and his brother, Lowell George.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Kimberly Day George; son, Thomas A. George (Lisa); daughter, Kim Hart (Rich); sisters-in-law, Mary Lynn George and Donna Day McAmis; brother-in-law, Brad Day (Brandy); niece, Debbie George Snyder; nephews, Eddie George, Tyler, Alex and Dylan McAmis, Jackson Day and Ethan Bolling; great-nieces, Joanna Parsons and Leah Heidel; special cousins, Tom, Dick and Harry George; and special friends, Hoyt Worley and Curtis Mount.
The family would also like to extend their sincere gratitude for Amanda, Jordan and the staff at UT Hospice.
A receiving of friends and family for Bill will be held Monday, June 20, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Berry Highland Memorial, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 PM. Family and friends will meet at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery for a graveside service on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Donald Proffitt will officiate the services.
Pallbearers will include, Tyler, Alex and Dylan McAmis, Jackson Day, Rich Hart and Trent "Nate" Warren. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom, Dick and Harry George.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bill's name to the Hospice Promise Foundation, 4435 Valley View Drive, Knoxville, TN 37917.
