With her family by her side, we sadly announce the passing of VIOLA GLADYS MACKENZIE, on November 7, 2021, at the age of 98 at the Hospice of Waterloo. She was born June 17, 1923, in Clifford. Predeceased by her loving husband Donald senior (2001) her son Donald Junior (2016) and her parents Bill and Marion Schaefer. Loving mother to Nancy Hallman (Barry), Douglas, Scott (Margaret), and daughter-in-law Joyce. Cherished grandmother of 13 grandchildren, great grandma to 14 children and great-great grandma to 3 children and aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was a special friend to Dorothy Bradley and Marleen Wiffen. Viola was a member of Olivet United Church where she volunteered for every church function and held various positions in UCW. She was an avid reader and knitter. Together with Dorothy and other volunteers, they knitted over 1000 squares annually for blankets, which were distributed to cancer patients and to the children’s hospital. Viola was such a sports fan! Her favorites were baseball, curling and bowling. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends and could give you a run for your money in horseshoes! She was previously employed at John Forsyth Shirts, where she met Donald. With her mother, Marion, she started her own bakery business which she ran until she retired. The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Hospice Waterloo for their exceptional care given to mom in her last few weeks. If desired, donations would be appreciated to Hospice Waterloo.
