It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and brother, Harold Stephens, age 95, on June 14, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Guelph.
Predeceased by wife Sylvia (née Owens) in 2015, and sister Grace Wright, he is survived by his remaining sisters Gene Elliott and Amy Rowswell. Missed by his five children, Brian (deceased) (Susan), Melanie, Murray (Ria), Don (Julie), and Ron (Brenda), along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Harold was born on Sept. 12, 1921 in Scott, Sask., and raised on the farm where his father homesteaded. He left home to go to high school in Saskatoon where he later pursued an engineering degree and met Sylvia. They moved East after the War. Harold worked at Dominion Rubber (later Uniroyal), retiring as Head Engineer in 1985. Harold was involved in many local committees and community groups over the years. He and Sylvia particularly enjoyed square dancing with the Beaux and Belles, being on the executive for over forty years, and making a wide circle of friends there. They were valued as active and contributing members of Calvary Memorial United Church, and in Harold’s memory, we ask that any donations considered be made to that church.
Harold’s family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm, and Thursday from noon until 1pm at the Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. South, Kitchener. A Memorial Service in celebration of Harold’s life will take place Thursday afternoon at 1pm at the funeral home with Rev. Lynne Bandy officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date.
