Erna Berenz

Born in Lithuania January 12, 1928, Erna passed away at The Village of University Gates, Waterloo, on Sunday, August 13, 2017, at the age of 89 years. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Berenz (1994). Dear mother of Robert and Richard. Loved grandmother of Alexis, Joseph, Rebecca, Christian, and Mitchell. Seeking a better life after surviving Soviet communist rule and Nazi occupation, Erna immigrated to Canada and met her future husband Joseph (1913 – 1994) on the Beaverbrae ocean liner (the boat coming over). Many thanks to CFL great Fritz Hanson for sponsoring, supporting, and employing Erna, an unknown WWII refugee as a housekeeper until Joseph settled into Kitchener and sent for his future bride. Please take solace in knowing that Erna lived a very long and happy life, living exactly the way she wanted and deserved. May she now rest in peace. Erna’s family will receive relatives and friends at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900), on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 12:30 – 1:15 pm, where the funeral service will be held in the chapel at 1:30 pm. Interment Woodland Cemetery.
