93 years Born June 26, 1918 in Lonke Germany, she found rest in her Lord on November 19, 2011. She was predeceased by her husband, Reinhard in 1994 who, as an Alzheimer sufferer, was devotedly attended and cared for by her for his last seven years. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Richard (Victoria Fillet), two grandchildren Erica Konrad (Chris Ho) and Veronica Konrad (Jon Ridley) and her great grand daughter, Lauren Addison Konrad-Ho. Emma is survived by two sisters, Erna of London, Ontario and Magdeleni (Leni) of Syke, Germany. She was predeceased by her sisters Margarete, Else, and Gertrud and by her brothers Otto, Ludwig, and Hugo. She is remembered with great fondness by her nephews Reverend Richard Orlowski (Christine) and their sons Christopher and Stephen and William Orlowski (Vicki) and his daughters Margaret and Chrissy. Emma is affectionately remembered by her nieces and nephews in Germany, Luzie, Reinhard, and Helene (Hella) and by her cousin, Annie Steinke in Windsor and her family. Emma, a non-swimmer escaped the forced confinement to Poland that followed World War II by wading across the Neisse River to freedom on a moonless night. She became a lifelong pacifist and had great empathy for innocent victims of war. Emma emigrated to Canada in 1948, initially to Medicine Hat, Alberta where she worked as a healthcare aide. She moved to Windsor, Ontario in 1950 and married Reinhard that year. She was very proud of her career in nursing at Riverview Hospital, a chronic care facility in Windsor. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church. Following many years in Windsor, she and Reinhard retired to Kitchener and were members of Bethel Lutheran where she was also active in the choir. Her final years were spent at the Village of Tansley Woods Long Term Care Facility in Burlington to be near family. Emma’s deep faith was manifested in her care for her family and others, especially the sick and needy, and her Bible studies. Despite little formal education, she was an avid reader. She loved jokes and to make people laugh. We will miss her immensely. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, Emma’s life be celebrated through charitable giving to either the Alzheimer’s Society, CNIB or Bethel Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home, 51 Benton St. Kitchener on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Visitation will continue at Bethel Lutheran Church, 47 Sheldon Ave. N., Kitchener on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Rev.
