Bruce Wayne Shafferman

Bruce received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Greensboro College and a Master’s Degree in Education. He was a choral music teacher in York County, Virginia and Guilford County, North Carolina. He then became a principal in Guilford County, North Carolina and then Bedford County, Virginia and finally in Loudoun County, Virginia. He was a past president of the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals. He loved his jobs as an educator and musician and touched the lives of many children and staff members. He and his wife retired in 2017 and moved to Wintergreen Resort in Nellysford, Virginia.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Duffer Shafferman; his son and daughter-in-law, Zachary and Ashley Shafferman of Lakeland, Florida; his daughter and son-in-law Ashley and Gary Woods, of Chesterfield, Virginia; his grandchildren, Mackenzie, Tristen, Reese, Ramsey and Camden Woods and Jackson and Aurora Shafferman; along with his two brothers, David and Richard Shafferman and his two sisters, Susan Byram and Nancy Long.

The family would like to suggest in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Rockfish Presbyterian Church in Nellysford, Virginia or a charity of your choosing.

A memorial service for Bruce is being held on Saturday, October 14th at 2 o’clock at Rockfish Presbyterian Church, 5016 Rockfish Valley Highway, Nellysford, Virginia.
