Mom was known to be a strong person. She stood up for what she believed in. Whether it was letting someone know she thought what they were up to was wrong or defending a position that she held. She had a certain way of gaining respect.

Family and Children filled her life... every new grandchild and great grandchild gave her more joy !
She was so proud of each and everyone of them . It was seeing these faces that brought a smile to her face in her toughest days near the end .

Predeceased by her Husband Hugh , parents John and Margaret, sisters Margaret and Myrtle (Ed), Helen (Leon)brothers James (Eileen) and Sanford( Marge)and brother-in-law John . As well as Hugh’s siblings  Ed(Gladys), Eleonore (Harold) ,Bob (Joyce) , Bill  ( Ruth) sister-in-law Gloria.
Jean leaves behind
Daughters  Cheryl(Dave), Gail(John).Sons Grant( Treva) , Tom (Sheila), Greg(Jaqueline)
13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren with another on the way. Her dear sister Verna. Brother-in-law Roderick , many nieces , nephews and close neighbours and friends.
We will miss you mom, grandma, great grandma....

Funeral service was held March 16 th in Kipling Sask and Jean was laid to rest next to Hugh at Landsdowne Memorial Gardens.

Ella “Jean” White ( nee Petrie) of Kipling Saskatchewan , left us to join the love of her life, Hugh ,on March 10,2019. 

Jean was Born on February 12th 1930 to John and Margaret Petrie of Broadview area. 

Growing up in the 30s life was tough. We heard many stories of life on the sand plain and growing up with her family. She treasured her horses especially Bobby. She was proud she went to school by horse everyday.

Jean loved to dance and it was at a dance at the Banes School House that the beautiful Redhead caught the eye of handsome Hugh White.

Jean  soon married Hugh and together they raised their family while farming in the Landsdowne district north east of Kipling Sask.

Mom was likely best known for her great cooking and baking. There are  few meals that ever tasted better than those served on her table. She could make everything taste fantastic. No one left the dinner table before eating a warm piece of pie with ice cream ,even if they didn’t have room for it.

Some family favourites were Homemade beans, delicious buns and at Christmas time Thin Bread!
Breakfasts were made memorable with home made chokecherry juice to dip your toast in  or her mouth watering baking soda biscuits. 
Let’s not forget all those loaves of bread she made over the years...


Mom loved to garden . Vegetables to fill the freezer and she also enjoyed having many flowers.  Marigolds were her favourite. She spent hours in the garden whether on the farm or in her huge garden in town. 
Jean and Hugh had a love like no other and when Hugh became sick Jean kept him at home caring for him until she no longer could. Then she would go everyday to be with him at the home. Caring for him and also spending time with others there that needed a friendly smile or just a little conversation. After he passed she adorned his grave with a well kept flower bed every year.

Jean White was a remarkable, hard working prairie gal. I appreciated her strength in so many ways. It makes me smile when I think back to the times I got to hear her yodel,  she was certainly an early influence to me.  I will forever remember her bright  presence, big laugh, and  her kind heart .

We will remember Jean as someone with a great smile, a warm heart and her great spirit and determination.
