Mary Jean (Rasmusson) Welty, beloved wife and cherished mother, passed away on 06/9/2024, in Humble, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 5th, 1955, in Watertown, South Dakota, Mary was the daughter of Cornell and Doris (Ruymann) Rasmusson.
Mary's professional journey began after graduating from Watertown High School in 1973. She embarked on a career in computer programming, driven by her passion for technology and fueled by her determination to excel. She initially honed her skills at Cooks, Inc., where she worked on various platforms, including a Trucker Insurance Platform and school accounting package. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Cupertino, California, where she spent eight years at Datrek, Inc., coding in COBOL and expanding her expertise.
In 1985, Mary relocated to Texas to be closer to her family, settling in Humble. She joined ADP's Banking and Thrift Services Division, where she made significant contributions over 36 years. Her proficiency in mainframe programming, particularly in Assembler Language and COBOL, propelled her through the ranks, culminating in her role as Director of Programming Services. Mary's dedication and leadership were instrumental in the success of the TotalPlus platform, which serviced hundreds of banking institutions across the country. This same year she met her eventual husband and love of her life, Grant Welty, who was employed in the same office. They were married August 22, 1987.
Mary's greatest joy in life was her family. She shared 37 years of marriage with her devoted husband, Grant, and together they raised two wonderful children, Preston and Olivia, whom she loved dearly.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Mary had a deep affection for animals, especially dogs, many of whom she rescued and cherished as part of her family. She delighted in decorating her home with extensive seasonal decorations, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for all who entered.
Mary found solace and joy in her garden, despite the Texas heat, cultivating vibrant roses that brought beauty to her surroundings and joy to her neighbors. She was also an avid collector of music boxes, dolls, and paintings, finding inspiration in the works of artists like Terry Redlin, a fellow South Dakotan, whom she admired since meeting him as a youngster.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory can be made to the Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston or the Golden Beginnings Rescue of Houston.
Mary's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
