Our Mother’s Loving Legacy
Today we celebrate the cherished life and legacy of our mother, Marilyn Ruth Flachmeier Warner, who was born on August 12, 1935 in Austin, Texas. She went to be with our Heavenly Father on June 20, 2022. She was the daughter of Raymond and Vallie Flachmeier and had one older brother, Raymond. She grew up in Austin, living in the same house from birth until she left for college. She attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas, for two years before marrying her sweetheart, Ralph, in December of 1954. They were married for 58 years before Ralph passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Marilyn was an amazing wife to Ralph and mother to us three children. She was a stay-at-home mom for most of our growing up years. She was also an avid volunteer for many organizations as she was always helping others and was an amazing example to us as she shared God’s love with others.
She and Ralph were members of Holy Comforter Lutheran Church in Kingwood, Texas, for over four decades, where she served early on in the children’s choir ministry, then for years on the altar guild, and then later on as a bell choir member. She played bells for many years alongside her fellow ringers, whom she adored. She also volunteered at Northeast Medical Center Hospital as an auxiliary member for many years before she finally went to work when her youngest was in high school. Marilyn worked as an administrative assistant at Insperity (formerly Administaff) for 30 years and made many close friends whom she held close to her heart.
Marilyn was a dedicated wife and caregiver, as she loved and cared for Ralph while he battled with Parkinson’s Disease. She did this as long as she was able to do so on her own. After moving Ralph to a neighborhood residential nursing home in 2011, Marilyn was still faithful in her nightly visits after long days at work, just to sit and be with him for hours.
Marilyn and Ralph were an amazing team as they raised us three children together, consistently supporting one another in their parenting and always modeling what true love and devotion really means.
One of Marilyn’s favorite places to spend time was on our lakefront property on Lake Austin. There she enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren, reading books on the deck, taking morning walks, visiting with neighbors, picking up limbs, and taking long boat rides with Ralph.
After Ralph passed on in 2013, Marilyn worked for four more years at Insperity before finally retiring after 30 years. We moved her up to McKinney in 2017 to be near her oldest daughter, Kimberly. Marilyn made many new friends at the Chateau Retirement Community and spent lots of family time with Kimberly and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Finally, we moved our amazing mom into memory care for her last two years. It was a place where she was always busy, constantly taking walks and visiting with other residents, until she suffered a mini-stroke in early June. She never quite recovered but was, for the first time in our memories, quiet and still. We had always been used to a constantly active mom, always walking, cleaning, working, or visiting with friends.
We know that now, finally, our mom can rest and be at peace, fully healthy and with a restored mind and body. She is alongside her loved ones who went before her, including the love of her life, Ralph, her partner for over 50 years. Most importantly, she is alongside her Heavenly Father. We know that He watched over her and loved her as only He can do. He knew everything about our mom: the number of hairs on her head, her thoughts and dreams, her prayers, and her questions that only He had answers for. He held her tightly in His arms and comforted her in her last days as only He can do, and for that we praise Him and are eternally grateful. We praise Him for His goodness and faithfulness. We will miss our mom dearly but look forward to the day we’ll be with her again.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, parents Raymond and Vallie Flachmeier, brother Raymond Flachmeier, and brother-in-law Lonnie Miller. She is survived by her children, Kimberly Lenzi, Brian Warner (Virginia) and Julie Warner; grandchildren, Ashley Farris (Timothy), Michael Lenzi (Stephanie), Michael Warner, Megan Warner, Brandon Warner (Ayme) and Kirsten Rowe (Jeffry); great-grandchildren, Sophia and Riley Farris, Alexis, Dominic, and Adlee Lenzi, Joshua, Colton, and Cooper Warner, Helina, Emery, and Cason Rowe; sisters-in-law, Patricia Ruser (John) and Charlotte Miller.
