James "Jim" O. Langley, a distinguished figure in the oil and mining industries, passed away on December 9, 2024, just shy of his 90th birthday. Born on December 18, 1934, Jim's life was marked by professional achievement and personal dedication.
Jim graduated from Oklahoma A&M in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. His career began at Humble Oil & Refining Company, where he dedicated 25 years, working in Houston, New Orleans, and London. In December 1982, he transitioned to Union Texas Petroleum as Senior Vice President of Production. After four and a half years, Jim took on the role of President and Board Member at Sunshine Mining Company, where he served until his retirement in 1992. Post-retirement, Jim contributed 17 years to SCORE, sharing his expertise with aspiring entrepreneurs.
Jim's personal life was equally fulfilling. He married Jean Ann Borne, with whom he had two children, James "Jimmy" O. Langley, Jr. and Dana Jean Langley. In 1970, he married Betty Dunn, who sadly passed away in January 2013 after a battle with ovarian cancer. In January 2014, Jim and Sally Richards married, and they shared a decade together in Santa Fe, NM, and Kingwood, TX.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Sally Langley; his son, James "Jimmy" O. Langley, Jr. (Terri) of Cypress, TX; his daughter, Dana J. Williams (Mike) of Houston, TX; and his cherished grandchildren, Steven M. Harris (Summer) of Crosby, TX; Ashley L. Rosebud (Chris) of Houston, TX; Ashlee Salvatore of Waller, TX; Justin Babcock of Cypress, TX; Tucker Blaine of Los Angeles, CA; Walker Blaine of Longview, TX; Patrick Keating of College Station, TX and Lauren Keating of Waco, TX. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Devyn D. Harris, Leelan G. Harris, Brianna Torres, and Grayson Salvatore, as well as his sister, Karen Gruntmeir (Joe) of Shawnee, OK.
Jim's legacy of leadership and love will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
