William “Bill” Archibald Tinney, age 87, a resident of Bishop, Texas passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013 in Bishop. He was born July 12, 1925 in Santa Maria, Texas to Patrick Edward Tinney and Olive Champion Tinney. Mr. Tinney was employed by Celanese Corporation for 35 years until his retirement. Bill, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, was stationed aboard the USS Ralph Talbot during the Pacific Campaign. Mr. Tinney was an active member of the Bishop American Legion Post 185 and V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jane Tinney; and three brothers, Michael Tinney, Patrick Tinney and Jim Thornton.
Mr. Tinney is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Wilson of Bishop; one son, William “Bill” A. Tinney Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas; companion, Margie Joyce of Sinton, Texas; one sister, Daisy Horner of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, John Tinney of Oceanside, California and Albert Tinney of Kingsville, Texas; three grandchildren, Michelle Smolen (Serge), Kim Guerra (Javier) and Travis Wilson (Jessica); and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel with a Eulogy Service to be held at 6:00 p.m. Military Honors will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bishop American Legion Scholarship Fund.
A gathering will take place Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Bishop American Legion, Bishop, Texas.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
