James “Jim” S. Scarborough III, age 90, a resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away Sunday, October 31, 2010 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born in Kingsville on September 15, 1920 to James S. Scarborough Jr. and Isabel Stripling Scarborough. Mr. Scarborough attended Texas A&I and Sam Houston State. He served in the United States Air Force for 32 years. He was one of the first CMSGT in the U.S. Air Force and retired on January 1, 1970. Mr. Scarborough was a veteran of World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era. He served as Kleberg County Sheriff for 16 years. He was a member of the Riviera Baptist Church, Riviera, Texas, Anchorage Masonic Lodge #17, and Al Amin Shriner.
Mr. Scarborough is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathryn A. Scarborough of Kingsville; two sons, James S. (Jane) Scarborough IV of San Marcos, Texas and Larry ( Kim) Scarborough of Kingsville; one daughter, Sheri (Jim) Dunaway of Minnesota; 11 grandchildren, James, Erin, Wendi, Beau, Will and Richard Scarborough, Suzanne Rodriguez, Dallas Jeno, Reidun Saxerud, Martha Longoria and Billy Bowdle; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, Julie Anne.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 4, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel with the family receiving friends that evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Douglas Hicks and Rev. Noe Trevino officiating. Burial will follow in Kingsville at Chamberlain Cemetery with Rev. Earl Jackson officiating. The graveside service will include Masonic services under the auspices of the Chamberlain Lodge #913 and full military honors provided by the Veterans of Kleberg County Military Funeral Detail.
Memorials may be made to Riviera Baptist Church, 1008 Boat Works Road, Riviera, Texas 78379, Salvation Army or charity of one’s choice.
