Marion Kincheloe of Johnson City, loving husband, proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather and faithful man of God went to be with his personal Savior on June 24, 2016. Marion was a World War II veteran. He earned the following honors while serving this country: Army Occupation Medal—Japan, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and 2 Overseas Bars. He was a graduate of Milligan College and earned a master’s degree from ETSU. Marion was with the Sullivan County and Bristol, Tennessee School Systems for 34 years, serving 32 years as principal of Avoca Elementary School. He served as president of the State Elementary School Principals’ Association, was director of the State Principals’ Study Council, and a charter member of Partnership For Successful Schools in Tennessee. He was a lifetime member of the National Education Association, Tennessee Education Association, National PTA, and Tennessee PTA. He was also active in his community serving as president of Avoca Civitan, president of Avoca Little League, and was involved in Boy Scouts.
Marion served as minister of Mt. Bethel Christian Church, Limestone, TN for 4 years in the 1950’s and served as interim minister at Central Holston Christian Church, Bristol, Tennessee. He served on the East Tennessee Evangelizing Association Committee, helping to start Avoca Christian Church. He was a charter member and their first minister. He was a member of First Christian Church of Johnson City and had served as elder, Sunday school superintendent, and worked on various committees with a special interest in the Sunday morning services at Appalachian Christian Village. Most recently, he was instrumental in establishing Gateway Christian Church in Sevier County, Tennessee and served as an elder.
He served as Chairman of the Board for Appalachian Christian Village and East Tennessee Christian home. He also served as president of East Tennessee Christian Men’s Fellowship and worked with the Appalachian Christian Camp. He had been a volunteer for Contact and Johnson City Medical Center.
Marion is survived by two daughters, Jan (Mike) Mobley, and Melany (Ronn) Looper; two sons, Carl (Patty Feathers) Kincheloe, and Steven Hendrix; daughter-in-law, Brenda (Matt) Money; grandchildren, Erin (Danial) Norman, Matthew (Kelly) Feathers, Chris (Brittany) Mobley, Erika Hendrix, Rebecca (Josh) Roberts, Michael (Tammy) Kincheloe, Will Kincheloe, Nathan (Kasey Hensley) Kincheloe, and Isaac Money; great-grandchildren, Julian Hendrix, Maddux Fleming, Caroline Norman, Avery Mobley, Brooklyn Norman, Macy Kate Roberts, Rhett Feathers, Beckett Mobley, Luke Oak Duncan Kincheloe – due in November, and Baby Kincheloe – due in December; two brothers, Carl Kincheloe, and Sam Kincheloe; two sisters, Betty Thomas, and Mary Jane Patton; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at First Christian Church of Johnson City. A celebration of life service will follow at 6:00 pm with Pastor Ron Blevins officiating.
