Rex Wayne Tunnell, 81 entered into the arms of Jesus during the evening hours of Thursday (August 9, 2018) surrounded by his loving family. Rex was born on June 7, 1937 in Rogersville, TN to the late Gilbert and Jessie (Parker) Tunnell. Rex married the love of his life on February 19, 1960, and after 58 years of a wonderful marriage and building a family together, she survives.
Rex unselfishly served our country in the Naval Reserves and the United States Army. He retired from Mead after more than 30 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed farming and horses, and spending time with his family and friends. Rex was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend; he will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Martha Jane Tunnell; daughter, Lisa Tunnell; son, Greg Tunnell & wife Janet; three grandchildren, Erica, Elisha, and Garrison Tunnell; great-granddaughter, Finley Grace Tunnell; brother, Gary Lynn Tunnell & wife Lynnie.
A private family committal service will be held on Sunday (August 12, 2018).
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (322 Eighth Ave. 7th Floor New York, NY 10001; www.alzfdn.org; 866-232-8484) or to Baileyton First Baptist Church (1208 Baileyton Main Street Greeneville, TN 37745).
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Tacoma Hospital, Durham Hensley Rehab, VA Hospital, and Caris Hospice for all the love and exceptional care given to Rex during his time of need.
