Mona Ruth Deel, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, age 81, of Kingsport, passed into eternal rest during the morning hours of Wednesday (November 18, 2015). Ruth was born to the late William Ballard & Velva Mae Hicks on December 22, 1933 in Kingsport, TN. After 48 years of marriage, John Edward Deel preceded her in death on October 1, 2002. Ruth enjoyed working as a Phlebotomist at Holston Valley Medical Center for several years. Ruth’s enjoyment came from spending time with her family and friends, whether it was visiting at home, making apple butter, church activities, or beach trips. She also loved to watch UT Vols, Lady Vols games, and NASCAR. Ruth had a “green thumb” and her beautiful flowers were admired by all. Ruth was a lifelong member of Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church. She will be remembered for her devotion and love to God, her family, friends, and her church. In addition to her loving husband and parents, Ruth is preceded in death by two brothers, Billie F. & James B. Hicks; two sisters, Mary Ella Cleek & Trula Rhae Buchanan; and niece, Barbara Cleek. Ruth is survived by her three daughters, Lisa Mescher & husband Robert of CA, Kathy Pleasant of MD, and Debbie Boggs & husband Kenneth of Kingsport; sister, Peggy Moore & husband Bobby of Kingsport; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church (6044 Orebank Rd. Kingsport). Funeral services will follow with Pastor Marshall Steinle officiating, with special music by Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church Choir. Committal services will be held at 2 p.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park, Kingsport, Tennessee, in the Garden of Everlasting Life III. Serving as pallbearers will be Troy Scott, Matt Sledgeski, Tommy Pleasant, Jeremy Boggs, Brian Mescher, and Philip Jennings. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Cole Sledgeski, Blake Neeley, Ronnie Parker, and Wesley Parker. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church (6044 Orebank Rd. Kingsport, TN 37664).
