December 3rd 1958 and passed at his home October 3rd 2023 with his wife by his side
following a brief illness.
Dr. Tino was a long time resident of Johnson city TN. He was born in Pennysavila, grew up in
Maryland but also resided in Florida, California, and Alabama. He recently gained dual
citizenship to italy which he and his wife had hoped to travel to in the future.
Son of the late Beatrice LaClaire and Arthur Tino . He is preceded in death by his son, Nikolas
Tino and brother Gus Maestrales .
At the age of 17, he became a US army Medical Corpsman and after his military service, he
became a chef at the Italian Embassy. He then went to college to get his RN license. He noticed
after 20 years the common complaint that patients had was that the doctors didn't take the time
to listen and explain to them what was really going on with their medical care. He truly cared for
his patients and wanted to help improve lives so at 40 years old he followed his lifelong dream
of completing Medical School & Residency at Saba University in the year 2000. After 7 years of
Family Medicine practice and seeing the huge demographic of patients on opioid pain
medications along with his own family's struggles and deaths due to chemical dependency he
decided to change his career path to studying and becoming Board Certified in Addiction
Medicine in 2010. His most recent accomplishment in medicine was getting his medical license
in Hawaii.
In 2008 he and his wife Joy decided to open a non-judgemental, friendly and evidence based
approach to addiction treatment, Doctors assisted wellness and recovery here in johnson city
and in Smyrna TN. He has helped countless people who he always considered staff and
patients as family.
Dr. Tino loved to travel with his family. He was an avid collector of baseball cards and coke
memorabilia. He enjoyed going to baseball games and Washington Redskins football games
with his sons and wife. He loved Ledos pizza, located in his hometown, and requested that
anyone traveling to the area bring him a pie or two. Dr. Tino also loved live music and had a
long list of musicians who he had traveled to see. He was the best Husband, father, and
Poppop and truly enjoyed just being with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joy Carrol Tino, brothers Bob Tino and wife Maria Carmen,
and Jessie Coulter, DanDan Tino wife of son Nikolas Tino, Son Michael Tino and wife Pricilla.
Two daughters by marriage Jessica and Sydney Carroll and six grandchildren ; Maya and
Makayla Tino, Silas and Kody Beasley, and Noah and Liam Tino. He was the best Husband,
Father, and PopPop. Whether it was on vacation or taking trips around town in his bright red ‘66
ford mustang he just enjoyed being with his family and friends.
Dr. Tino's contributions left the world a better place just by being in it. Anyone who had the honor
of knowing him knows how he strived to help them be the best version of themselves through
his leadership and guidance. He touched the lives of so many and will truly be missed by us all.
A Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023 in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home.
