Jerry was born in Greeneville, Tennessee on March 12, 1949, graduated from Greeneville High School, and attended Tusculum College and The University of Tennessee. Jerry served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1970. After leaving the military, he went on to work at various jobs including positions at the Knoxville Zoo, Bechtel, and Nuclear Fuel Services.
Jerry’s life will always be remembered by the impact he had on his community, and especially by his family that will continue carrying his legacy of service and love: His wife, Connie Reynolds, his daughters Amber Gourley, Dr. Ada Hagan, and Esther Reynolds, his former wife, Anne Baxter, and his grandchildren: Dax Hagan, Mikayla and Rader Gourley, Aaron and Allen Lewis, Johannes and Tiago Durkin.
Jerry was an avid fisherman who could often be found in his boat on Watauga Lake, night and day, rain or shine. He was a Seventh Day Adventist, attending Johnson City SDA since the early 90’s. As an incredible cook, Jerry’s mashed potatoes were the most sought after leftover every family dinner.
A graveside service will be held at East Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park (4997 Memorial Blvd., Kingsport) on Thursday, August 16 at 10:00 am with Military Rites conducted by the American Legion Post 3/265, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at Johnson City Seventh Day Adventist Church (1910 E Oakland Ave, Johnson City) on the same day at 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, his family has requested donations in his memory to the Salvation Army, 204 W. Walnut, Johnson City, TN 37604; Second Harvest Food Bank, 1020 Jericho Drive, Kingsport, TN 37663; and/or Living Spring Christian Academy, 314 Delmar Salts Rd., Gray, TN 37615.
