Herbert Woodrow Reese, 92, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015, at his home. Woodrow was born on April 10, 1922 in Pulaski, Virginia, the son of the late O.B. and Ella Reese. He moved to the Kingsport area at an early age and has lived here for the remainder of his life. Woodrow became a Christian in 1931 at Maple Street Methodist Church. Maple Street Methodist and Fairfield Methodist combined to form the congregation of Mafair Methodist, where he and his parents were charter members and where he remained a member for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. He received the following decorations and citations during service; EAMET Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Woodrow retired from the U.S. Postal Services. In addition to his parents, Woodrow was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Spicer Reese; sisters, Lottie Hobach, Gladys Combs, Willie Wolfe, and Ercil Taylor; nieces and nephews. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Snapp Reese; son, Randy Reese and wife Angie; granddaughters, Hannah Arnold and Chris, and Amanda Walsh and Josh; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 12:00pm until 1:00pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Mr. Herbert Woodrow Reese will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 1:00pm in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Markel officiating. Music will be provided by Mitchell Snapp. Burial will follow in the Garden of the Good Shepherd of East Lawn Memorial Park and because of Woodrow’s military service during World War II; military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265. Pallbearers will be Amanda Walsh, Hannah Arnold, Chris Arnold, Justin Hughes, William Snapp, Shawn Ramsey, Lee Smawley and Jim Livingston. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Walsh, Don Hughes, Bill Snapp, Doug Snapp, Tom Smawley and Herb Snapp. The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff of Wellmont Home Hospice, and especially Nina, Robyn, Skye, Heather, Iva, and Doreen for their faithful and caring compassion and service to Woodrow and his family.
